Happy Monday Superstars! Thank you for reading today’s recap post of the 2018 Royal Rumble that took place last night in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and it was a great kickoff to the Wrestlemania Season! Please keep in mind that spoilers of the event is inbound, so if you did not watch you may want to stop reading now. This is your official **Spoiler Alert, Spoiler Alert!**
WWE Championship Match –
The first match of the night was the WWE Championship title match where champion AJ Styles fought against both Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens. This handicap match was a great way to begin the night and it delivered. Everything that we would expect from a handicap match was delivered and AJ Styles put on a “Phenomenal” showing. This match was weird for me as I like AJ Styles but I also Love Kevin Owens and his newly reunited friendship with Sami Zayn (although it pales in comparison to JeriKO lol). I was cooking during this match so I didn’t get the play by play, but from what I did watch, I was impressed.
Results: AJ Styles retains his title!
Smackdown Live Tag Team Championship Match-
Next up was the SD Live Tag Team match where The Usos took on Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin. The tag team division over at SD Live has been ramping up its game lately and Gable and Benjamin always put on a great show. I was still cooking so I didn’t see too much of this match.
Results: The Usos retain their title
Mens Royal Rumble Match –
I was pleasantly surprised that the Men’s Royal Rumble was 3rd on the card. Normally this will be the main event match, but WWE had other plans in store. The 1st 2 starting Superstars were Rusev and Finn Balor, who both lasted pretty long in the match. We had a few surprises with the NXT Champion Andrade Cien Almas entering the rumble and Sami Zayn taking out Tye Dillinger at number 10 to enter in his place. I was very surprised when “ BURN IT DOWNNNNNN” played and my husband came running down the ramp in fire and flames pants. One moment that was fantastic for me (albeit predictable) was when Roman Reigns eliminated Seth Rollins and they exchanged looks of understanding… Seth I love you, but you did have that coming lol. Number 30 wasn’t the shocker that we all wanted, but Dolph Ziggler coming in was cool. Another highlight was the warm up match for a few Superstars where they came down the ramp and hit Heath Slater lol.
Here’s the rumble entry order:
- Finn Balor
- Baron Corbin
- Heath Slater
- WWE NXT Champion Andrade “Cien” Almas
- Bray Wyatt
- Big E
- Tye Dillinger (spot stolen by Sami Zayn)

- RAW Tag Team Champion Seth Rollins
- Matt Hardy
- John Cena
- “The Hurricane” Shane Helms
- Aiden English
- Adam Cole
- Randy Orton
- Titus O’Neil
- WWE Intercontinental Champion The Miz
- Rey Mysterio
- Roman Reigns
- Dolph Ziggler
Results: Nakamura is going to Wrestlemania!
Raw Tag Team Championship Match-
After the rumble, my husband and half of the Tag Team Champions Seth Rollins took on the Bar with a cameo from Jason Jordan. I can’t stand Jordan and I hate that he costs Seth Rollins matches over and over and over again. I say cameo because if you did watch, Jordan spent most of the match laying by the side of the ring holding his head smh. Seth fought a great match against the bar until Jason tagged himself in and immediately tagged himself back out. I can’t stand him, really. I did like the match and Seth pulled out a move that I haven’t seen in a while.
Results: The Bar are the new Raw Tag Team Champions.
Universal Championship Match –
The triple threat match between champion Brock Lesner, Braun Strowman and Kane. This match was great with all the roughness that a WWE fan would expect. Braun dominated early putting everyone through tables and rising like a beast when he was put through one by the Beast. Brock took Braun to Suplex City and Kane was handing out chokeslams like hotcakes. What more could you want?
Results: Brock Lesner Retains -_-
Women’s Royal Rumble Match –
Firstly, I was surprised and excited when I realized that the Women’s match would be the main event of the Royal Rumble. There’s so many talented Superstars and it was an amazing match all around. The starting women were Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch. I was extremely impressed with the women’s rumble and when Lita came in at number 5 I jumped off the sofa screaming, “I knew it, I knew it!” There were many surprise entrants like Molly Holly and Kelly Kelly that had me geeking out. When Nikki Bella came out I was clapping my hands and I looked to my friend and said, I wonder if Brie will come out? Sure enough Brie came out next! Number 30 for the Women’s match was a surprise as Trish Stratus came out. I thought it would be Ronda Rousey but it’s ok.
Here’s the Entrance Order:
- Sasha Banks
- Becky Lynch
- Sarah Logan
- Mandy Rose
- WWE Hall of Famer Lita
- Kairi Sane
- Tamina Snuka

Results: No One Is Ready For Asuka!
But wait… there’s more! Charlotte and Alexa Bliss came in the ring so that Asuka could select her opponent for Wrestlemania. Before she could choose RONDA ROUSEY came out! Yes, that’s right! I knew it, I knew it, Ronda Rousey is in the WWE! Hopefully more will be announced tonight on Monday Night Raw.
- Naomi’s tricks to get back in the ring without being eliminated
- The pancake barrage by The New Day
- Nakamura’s win and his decision to face AJ Styles at Wrestlemania
- The Generations stare between Cena, Orton and Rey Mysterio versus Roman, Finn and Nakamura.
It was a great Rumble and 10X better than last year. The matches were good and the results were pretty good as well.
